Araruna is a small town with about 18,000 inhabitants in the state of Paraiba in the northeast of Brazil, which is said to be one of the driest regions in the country.
In the interior of the country, it only rains a few days in some years. Especially the farmers with their families suffer from these difficult circumstances.
Since the year 2000 our main goal is to provide support for these inhabitants.
Father Christian Muffler (from Deggendorf, former student of St.-Michaels-Gymnasium Metten; graduating year 1952) has been working as a priest of Fidei Donum in Brazil for more than 40 years. He was parish priest in Araruna from 1996 to 2001.
In his years in the northeast of Brazil, he got to know and carried out many charity projects. The projects within our initiative are founded on the long standing experience of Father Christian Muffler. We guarantee to organize our activities in an ecologically compatible and economically sensible way. These activities are supposed to create better living conditions for poor people in the long run.
Our main goal is to provide help in order to generate autonomy. This help is based on the motivation and the incentive of all people involved. Instead of providing remotely conceived help in the original sense of development aid, in which the focus is on financial support, we are trying to provide jointly conceived and jointly performed development cooperation. In our projects, we therefore go without the use of expensive technologies or machines, if possible, but rely on methods that have proven in the target area (link zu Projekte). An integral part of our work is the permanent contact of the supporters and organizers in Germany to the project supervisors on site in Brazil. This personal contact is the basis of our work. In his years in Araruna, Father Christian Muffler was often supported by volunteers from Germany.
In 2001, Toni Huber (from Eggenfelden) and myself were the last two young people who had the opportunity to get familiar with the community of Araruna and the projects of Father Christian. When Father Christian was relocated to another city in Brazil the year after, I decided to continue and expand the projects, if possible. On this website, I try to provide an overview of our activities in Araruna and its twelve communities. If these projects (link zu Projekte) deserve support in your opinion, we would be delighted if you could support us in any fashion (link zu Mithelfen) to help the poor people in Brazil and to make the world a bit more even-handed. In view of the extremely bad conditions in Araruna, even a small contribution can render large assistance.
