Arme Menschen e.V. celebrated its second anniversary this month.

On this occasion we want to say thanks to all the donors and helpers of the project for the support throughout the last years. In those two years many things have been achieved and we hope that we can continue to improve the lives of the families in the Northeast of Brazil with your support in the future, as well.

The rains have begun and so did the plantation period of the 16 000 tree seedling, produced this year. On the one hand these seedlings are fruit trees (passion fruit, cashew), on the other hand it concerns plants of use (Sabia, Moringa). Especially the former are demanded because the fruit market yields higher profits in comparison.

For this reason the remaining seedlings were distributed in the surrounding communities in collaboration with the local government. The majority of the farmers have already started to plant the seedlings. With the farmers predominantly lacking the appropriate planting knowledge we managed to organize in our education centre the two-day course "The Basics of fructification". In partnership with the SEBRAE this lecture was given by a university professor and was well attended with 18 participants, partly also from distant surrounding communities.

In the water project can also be proclaimed another success. The construction of a tank in a surrounding community was completed with having finished the works concerning the fence. This tank now supplies clean drink water for 7 families. At this point we want to thank family Diepolder, who made this project possible by their donation.

Furthermore we helped three boys in the community "Balanços". They are orphans and live in a house without furniture. Since they don't have beds they have to sleep on the floor each night. Their electricity was turned off several months ago as they weren't able to pay the bill. Besides, a part of the roof was broken and therefore water was continuously entering during the rainy season. In addition a part of the plastering was torn down because being constantly in contact with water. In a so-called "Mutirão (community work) the roof of the boys was repaired, a toilet installed, the kitchen renewed and a part of the wall rehabilitated.

Presentation of a current project:

In the surrounding community "Balanços", where also was organized the Mutirão in the last month are several other people in need. Often the residents of the community live under the worst conditions, as the example of the three boys shows. We would like to organize more community works in this region, though we lack the financial means.

One of these people is "Dora" who lives alone in a run-down house. Her dream is to renovate the kitchen which is only made of clay and wood and almost collapsing back upon itself.

To realize this little project we would need approximately 200 Euros.
